Filipino Sculptor Dubbed The “King Of Ice Carvings” In France

49-Year-Old Filipino Sculptor Won The 28th Valloire International Ice Sculpture Competition In France, Dubbed The “King Of Ice Carvings”.

ICE CARVINGS – A Filipino sculptor recently won against 19 international ice sculptors in The 28th Valloire International Ice Sculpture Competition.

Rogel Cabisidan, 49 years of age and a Filipino, won the competition when judges liked his ice sculpture named “Sitting”, which consists of an abstract form of a lady with raised hair sitting on a pile of ice cubes.

According to UNTV News, Roger explained why he was able to form his masterpiece in the competiton. This is what he said:

“The judges liked it because the ice was transparent and there were no cracks. That’s because the temperature was favorable -12°, -8° so we were able to maintain the quality of the ice. We stayed until 1 o’clock when the ice was strong and the best quality to work on. You can attach a piece on it and the figure wouldn’t break because of the freezing temperature.”

The Valloire International Ice Sculpture Competition was held at
the southeastern city of Valloire Savoie in France from January 15 to 18 with participation from different countries which includes France, Russia, Denmark and Mexico among others.

Cabisidan is a native from Paete, Laguna, and has been living in France for eight years now. He works as a chef in a cruise restaurant in Lyon, France.

As per the report, Cabisidan developed his talent as a sculptor when he was a kid. Furthermore, he tried making sculptures out of wood vegetables, fruits, cheese, butter and chocolates.

By the time he went to France, he decided to try sculpting on ice. He dedicate his achievements to the Filipinos and his home country, the Philippines.
