Notice of Violation to Company Responsible For Shipping Waste From South Korea Issued By DENR
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has issued a notice of violation to the company responsible for shipping waste from South Korea.
On July 2018, the 5,000 tons of garbage from South Korea was dumped in Mindanao container terminal Misamis Oriental. The massive amount of garbage is now stocked at Tagoloan.
The Environmental and Management Bureau said that the shipment consignee Verde Soko Philippines Industrial Corporation has no importation clearance and business permit.
The Tagoloan Mayor Heckert Emano that the garbage shipment is being considered as direct importation.
DENR EMB Regional Director Sabdullah Abubacar said that the company should secure an import clearance ensuring that the import is clean plastics and not hazardous waste.
Abubacar also explained that there should also a certification from the Philippine Embassy in South Korean proving that the shipment is not hazardous.
Verde Soko explained that the cargoes have already arrived in Misamis Oriental although their importation clearance was still in process.
DENR revealed that the waste shipment contains dextrose tubes, used diapers, batteries, bulbs, and electronic equipment based on the initial findings.
Environment Undersecretary Benny Antiporda also believes that the garbage wastes could be to its point of origins such as Canada and South Korea.
