Palace Issues Statement Over Dengue Vaccine Controversy

Malacañang Palace has issued a statement over the halted controversial Dengue vaccination program of the Department of Health (DOH).

Anti-Dengue Vaccine

The dengue vaccination program conducted by DOH was placed on hold after Sanofi Pasteur, the manufacturer of dengue vaccine Dengvaxia, revealed risk effects of the vaccine.

“Wala pong dahilan para mag-panic. Tama naman po na nagkaroon ng konting bahala tayo dahil hindi naman natin alam na matapos maibigay sa mga kabataan akala natin complete immunity na from dengue ,” Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said.

According to Roque, among the symptoms mentioned by Sanofi which might cause the “severe” dengue as the result of the vaccination are fever and hemophilia, which are not critical.

Based on the study of Sanofi, only one out of 10 people who have undergone vaccination may acquire severe dengue.

“But there will be nine out of ten who will be protected from acquiring what could be not just serious but possibly a deadly stage of dengue,” Roque said.

Meanwhile, according to a report published by Philstar.com, DOH spokesperson Lyndon Lee Suy stated that 10 percent of the over 700,000 children vaccinated by Dengvaxia is possible to have severe dengue.

On the other hand, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has mandated the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to look for the person criminally liable for dengue vaccine mess.
