Former Spokesman Ernesto Abella Appointed as DFA Undersecretary

Former presidential spokesperson, Ernesto Abella, has been appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as undersecretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

The appointment paper of Abella as DFA undersecretary which was released earlier was dated October 27, the time when rumors spread that Abella would be replaced as Duterte’s spokesman.

The administration initially denied the reports of replacing Abella until Duterte announced on October 28 that human rights lawyer and former Kabayan party-list Rep. Harry Roque will be his new spokesperson.

Abella as the undersecretary will work with Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano.

According to Abella, the “tough-talking solon” would be “more than adequate” to replace him as the presidential spokesperson.
