BREAKING NEWS: Graduating Political Science Student Dies After Being Struck by Lightning

Edrian Hidalgo, a 20-year-old graduating student from Barangay Alzate, Bangar, La Union died after he was struck by a lightning on Thursday.

Hidalgo, a Political Science student from Ilocos Sur Polytechnic College, was hit by a lightning while washing his hands.

“Kasalukuyan raw na naghuhugas ng kamay sa irrigated canal doon sa Barangay Agdeppa nung na-struck siya ng lightning,” Senior Inspector Winston Manzano said.

The victim was declared dead on arrival and it was confirmed that the lightning is the cause of his death.

His father Arnold, shared in an interview with ABS-CBN News and other members of the press that Edrian is a kind, hard-working, and dependable son.

Eric, his sibling, recalled that his late brother once told him that Edrian is going to send him to college as soon the latter finish his Political Science course.

Edrian’s remains lie at his residence.

“Stay in safe shelter at least 30 minutes after you hear the last sound of thunder. Stay off corded phones, computers and other electrical equipment that put you in direct contact with electricity. Avoid plumbing, including sinks, baths and faucets. Stay away from windows and doors, and stay off porches.”
