Jake Zyrus speaks up about the effects of testosterone shots on his vocal range.
He has been taking testosterone shots as part of his transition to becoming a trans man.
Formerly known as international singing sensation Charice Pempengco, he was once regarded of having vocal prowess and hitting high notes in his shows and performances.
“Sa totoo lang, since four months pa lang ako sa testosterone, nandun pa rin ako sa pagbibinata,” Jake Zyrus admitted.
“Mas nae-enjoy ko siya kasi iba-ibang song ang nae-experiment ko, kaya ko pala ‘to,” he added.
“Kumbaga, lahat ng artista na naririnig ko, tina-try kong kantahin para alam ko ano yung nahihirapan ako, ano yung bagay sa boses ko,” Jake Zyrus explained.
Jake Zyrus disclosed in an interview with PEP.ph and other members of the press that he did not regret taking testosterone shots which have affected him particularly his voice.
“Hindi naman yun sa dahil ayaw mong bumirit, e. It’s about telling the people na malaman nilang hindi ako yun,” he said.
“Iba yung feeling kapag ikaw na talaga, sarili mo na talaga. Kasi before, sobrang hindi ko na gusto yung nakikita ko, naririnig ko,” he added.
“Masarap na alam mo sa sarili mo na ikaw ‘yan, alam mo sa sarili mo na wala kang tinatago,” he stressed.
For the first time, Jake Zyrus will perform as a trans man in his upcoming concert entitled “I Am Jake Zyrus” which will be held at the Music Museum this coming October 6.
