Classes Suspended in Luzon Due to Magnitude 6.3 Earthquake

Several institutions in Luzon announced the suspension of classes after a Magnitude 6.3 earthquake hit on Friday, August 11, 2017, in Batangas and other areas of Luzon.

The strong earthquake prompted a local government unit and several schools to cancel classes.

Here are the LGUs and schools that announced class cancellation:

  • Olongapo City (All Levels)
  • Lyceum of the Philippines University Batangas
  • Philippine Women’s University
  • Far Eastern University – Manila
  • Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila
  • Far Eastern University – Makati
  • Manila Tytana Colleges
  • De La Salle University – Manila
  • De La Salle University – BGC
  • De La Salle University – Laguna
  • De La Salle University – Makati
  • De La Salle University – Dasmariñas

Earlier, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a Magnitude 6.3 Earthquake in Nasugbu, Batangas.

The earthquake which hit on Friday, August 11, 2017, at exactly 1:28 p.m. lasted for several seconds and it was also felt in various areas in Luzon.
