Game show host Luis Manzano explained the reasons why he cannot play the role of Pinoy comics superhero, Captain Barbell.
Captain Barbell was once portrayed by his father Edu Manzano.
According to Inquirer.net, Captain Barbell is technically the son of Filipina superheroine, Darna, which was once played by the latter’s mom, Vilma Santos.
Based on a Twitter statement of Luis Manzano when asked by a netizen if he could play the role of Captain Barbell, he said: “not a big star para ibigay ganung role.”
When asked by another netizen what could possibly be lacking in him that prevents him from taking the iconic role, he just said: “Star power.”
Captain Barbell was created by Mars Ravelo.
The first movie adaptation of comics story was in 1964. Later, several movie versions of Captain Barbell were produced.
Aside from Edu Manzano who portrayed Captain Barbel in 1986, other popular Filipino actors also played the role of the superhero including Bong Revilla in a 2003 film and Richard Gutierrez, in its TV adaptations in 2006 and 2011.
Meanwhile, Luis Manzano came to prominence as a game show and reality host.
He is known for hosting numerous Kapamilya shows including Pinoy Big Brother, Pilipinas Got Talent, Kapamilya, Deal or No Deal, Minute to Win It, The Voice, Celebrity Playtime, Family Feud and to name a few.
