The Commission on Appointments (CA) approved the nomination of Senator Alan Peter Cayetano as the new Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
The nomination of Cayetano as secretary of foreign affairs was approved by the CA panel, chaired by Senator Panfilo Lacson in a confirmation hearing on Wednesday, May 17, 2017,
Cayetano, who’s known for giving lengthy statements then gave a short, brief and concise speech.
“I always tell my brothers and my seat mates sa basketball, pag omo-oo na huwag ka ng humirit pa baka bawiin pa later on…” he started in jest.
“I will make a commitment to you today that I will do my best na hindi po kayo mapahiya,” the new DFA secretary said.
Based on a report published by Inquirer.net, the proceeding was described by Lacson as the “shortest confirmation hearing of a Cabinet Secretary.”
However, before taking over the post, his recommendation will be transmitted to the CA plenary for approval or rejection.
“…I thank the Commission and gagamitin ko itong mabilis at painless na confirmation bilang paalala that I have to do my best,” he told the reporters.
“So minsan baligtad na gini-grill namin ng husto, minsan ang dami ng tanong…This time kahit naging madali mahirap naman ang trabaho so commitment ko po sa inyo , sa media, to do our best to represent the Philippines and to take care of the 105 million Filipinos,” he added.
