Bacolod news reporter Angelo Angolo took to social networking site, Facebook, to share this heart-melting and inspiring story.
Here’s the post:
This is supposed to be a very touching and happy moment. Father gets to hold and carry his first born for the first time. But for 29-year old Jeremias Perez of Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, he could barely move to hold his little Zach.
Father and son met at the reverse isolation ward of of Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City where Jeremiah has been confined since April 5. He was diagnosed with leukemia last February.
Baby Zach was born on April 13 at Kabankalan City District Hospital, more than 1 hour and a half from Bacolod City. Jeremias’ wife, Carol, had to sign a waiver to be allowed to bring the baby to his father. Tears flowed as father and son laid beside each other.
Six months ago, everything looked promising for Jeremias who was working as a customer service personnel at Kabankalan Water District. He married his wife Carol October last year and they were looking forward to a life of bliss together with their baby. But their dreams slowly crumpled down.
More than a week ago, his condition became critical and his family was already expecting the worst. But Jeremias refused to give up and continues fighting despite doctors’ prognosis that he only has days or weeks left because of his worsening condition. The young father understands his situation and he asked to be discharged in order to spend time with his family at home.
Jeremias was supposed to be discharged last Monday, April 24, but the family can no longer afford to pay the remaining hospital bills of more than P150,000.00. They appeal for help.
Despite this and being a fighter that he is, Jeremias remains strong in spirit believing that miracles still happen if only for his wife and son.
