Atty. Bruce Rivera reacts on Maxine Medina’s response in Q&A portion of Miss Universe.
Atty. Bruce Rivera took to social media and express his reaction to Miss Philippines Maxine Medina’s performance in the 65th Miss Universe Pageant.
Maxine Medina is the first Filipina beauty queen who uses an interpreter in Miss Universe pageant and she should have been the first candidate to answer the question using the Filipino language.
Filipinos were screaming and cheering for Miss Philippines as she was the last contestant to be called among the candidates and landed on the top 6 of the Miss Universe competition.

During the much-awaited Question and Answer portion of the pageant, Medina was the first contestant to answer the question.

An interpreter translated the question to Filipino but Medina still chose to answer it in English.
In a lengthy Facebook post of Bruce V. Rivera, he expressed his disappointment on the Pinay candidate by saying, “MY MISS UNIVERSE 2017 REGRET.”
Rivera pointed out in his Facebook post that his biggest regret was Maxine Medina. He explained that Medina should have been the first Pinay beauty queen to speak Filipino in the international pageant.
But Rivera wrote that it made her look stupid because she chose to answer the question in English.
“It made her look stupid because how can you not understand the English question and be able to give an English answer. The purpose of the translator is to translate her answers in Filipino not because she does not know English but because she best expresses herself in her native tongue.”
Rivera ended his post by saying, “So snobby English-speaking queens cannot just change their minds because of English language proficiency.”
The Journey of Maxine Medina ends after she failed to make it to the Top 3 of the international pageant.
Miss Colombia was announced as the second runner-up and Miss Haiti is the first runner-up.
Miss France Iris Mittenaere is crowned the news Miss Universe Queen.
Please let’s not dwell so much on the performance of Miss Maxine Medina…it’s over and not worth of any criticism. Attached. Rivera is correct to point out the use of Filipino language with the presence of a Filipino interpreter. Well, the presentation is like a “Comedy of Error”, where a Filipino interpreter is to interpret a question to be answered by a Filipino contestant in English before the Filipino audience. Whose fault could this mixed up be? No other that the guidance counselor or adviser of the candidate and the management…..in short, there were no proper instruction, proper decorum and more. The Philippines is the host country,.yet nothing symbolic seemed to have been remarkably presented that could the Filipinos could show how culturally great the Philippines is to the visitors, foreign dignitaries and the world.
Yes, the Philippines has an enormous treasures that could be shared and cherished by the foreign countries and the whole wide world during the pageant. That greatest opportunity the Philippine beautiful candidate and the host country could have achieved during this amazing pageantry. So….folks, this is a missed opportunity and just try to prepare better next time. Chao!!!
