In the City of Dumaguete, Rappler found an artist with an exceptional talent and dedication. A man born with no hands, creating miniature tricycle. Andy Villaruel works as a mini tricycle manufacturer.
Villaruel, 24, is an exceptional artist who’s making art crafts in one of the souvenir shop in the city. A miniature of tricycle known as one of the common transportation vehicle here in the Philippines.
Several years ago, Villaruel met Julius Lusaya in the small town of La Castellana. Julius owns a shop that sells the miniatures.
Villaruel is from La Castellana Negros Occidental and was brought by Lusaya in Dumaguete to offer him a job.
Working with the details of the miniature takes great pain in order to make a finish product. It will take 4 days for Villaruel to finish 1 miniature tricycle and sells them for P2,000 each.
Lusaya trained Villaruel for almost six months before he could make an accurate miniature replica of tricycle. He said he asked Villaruel two questions: whether he knows how to hammer and use scissors before he offered Villaruel a job.
Lusaya also promise Villaruel a free accommodation and food once he accept the job offer.
“Because at the start, I really wanted to be able to impart the things I discovered. When I thought about the people I wanted to impart it to, I thought, why not teach persons with disability (PWD)? I really want them to have jobs as well,” Lusaya said.
Not even his physical condition nor the reservation of his parents stopped him for reaching his goal. He has shown that the only secret in reaching your goal is just a matter of courage and dedication.
