The Vice-president did not make it to the Anti-Marcos burial rally on Sunday.
The heavy rains did not stop the Anti-Marcos groups in holding their protest rally at Luneta Park in Manila, Sunday morning.
Different groups and organizations from various sectors gathered at Luneta to protest against the laying of Former Pres. Ferdinand Edralin Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (Heroes’ Cemetery) on September.
The protesters all wore yellow and white shirts and carried numerous banners bearing the words, “Marcos not a hero”.
Also joined in the rally were from the church, academe, students, militant groups, partylist groups and the victims of the Martial law.
Some prominent personalities also attended including Sen. Risa Hontiveros, former Sen. Bobby Tañada, former Commission on Human Rights (CHR) chair Etta Rosales, Reps. Edcel Lagman and Teddy Baguilat, Bayang Barrios, Cookie Chua, Leah Navarra, among others.
But Vice President Leonor “Leni” Robredo was not able to make it because of catching fever and staying under the rain might worsen her condition.
A similar rally was held in Baguio City, Cebu and Davao to show dissent on giving a hero’s burial to the dictator.
The movement also aims to convince Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to reconsider his decision of giving space to Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
If the president shall not be touched by the nationwide rallies, Marcos burial on September 18 shall push through.
President Duterte emphasized that it is the law, and not sentiments or emotions of some, which will be the basis of laying the corpse of Former Pres. Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
Duterte said that as a president of the country, he took oath to implement the law, without fear or favor, and without considering any sentiments.

The country’s chief executive officer said that he has no plans of initiating a referendum to take public opinion on whether Marcos’s burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani shall be pursued or not. He said it shall cost the country billions of pesos for that sole reason.
He even said that if the ‘yellows’, referring to Former Pres. Benigno Aquino III’s loyalists and the Liberal party, really decries Marcos’ burial, they must have enacted a law prohibiting such.
