MIAA Chief: ‘Do Not Overcharge Airport Passengers’

MIAA Chief – The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Ed Monreal warns taxi drivers on overcharging on airport passengers.

In a report by GMA News, the MIAA chief issued a warning against taxi drivers who will be overcharging airport passengers since regular taxis are now allowed in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

According to The Standard, Monreal approved the new policy allowing regular white taxis can now pick up passengers at the arrival areas of NAIA starting Monday, July 18, 2016.

This action was made to give passengers other choices of transportation going to their destinations. Monreal added that allowing white taxis in the airport will “address the shortage of airport-accredited transportation units.”

But, these taxi drivers should not have to overcharge the airport passengers.

“Ang instruction po namin sa taxi na pumapasok ay kailangan singilin lang po ayon sa taripa ng kanilang metro,” Monreal said as quoted in GMA News.

[The instruction given to the taxis that are entering is that they just need to charge what the tariff meter reads.]

“Pinagbabawal po namin ang pagkokontrata, pag-overcharge ng mga pasahero,” he added.

[Agreeing a contract or overcharging to passengers is prohibited.]

Monreal explained that passengers will be given a piece of paper wherein the name of the taxi company, operator, plate number, and the numbers wherein they can contact incase of complaint are written.

He added that regular taxis will be allowed to go inside the terminal in batches. His makes possible NAIA terminals to have an alternative mode of transportation. Also, other nearby taxis are invited to come and fall in line in different terminals.

What do you think about the action of the MIAA chief regarding the allowing of regular taxis to go in NAIA terminals? Will taxi drivers refrain from overcharging from airport passenger?
