Population In Northern Mindanao Reaches 4.69 Million

The population in Northern Mindanao or Region X has already reached 4.69 million.

The population in Northern Mindanao has reached 4.69 million according to the latest data released by Census of Population (POPCEN). The average rate increase of the population annually was pegged at 1.68 percent from 2010 to 2015, said the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Northern Mindanao or Region X is composed of cities of Cagayan De Oro and Iligan, provinces of Bukidnon, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, and Lanao Del Norte.

According to GMA News, the date of POPCEN showed that the population has reached 4,689,302. It is 391,979 up compared to data gathered in 2010. The Region X has now the 8th biggest population in the country.

The province of Bukidnon compromised 30.2 percent of the total population with a population of 1,415,226, while Camiguin has the smallest population with only 88,478.

Cagayan De Oro City was described as the fastest growing area in Northern Mindanao with an annual growth of 2.23 percent. It was followed by Lanao Del Norte with average rate increase of 2.05 percent.

Eddie Nasol, PSA Regional Director, said that growth of population was lower compared to the period from 2000 to 2010.

“This rate was lower than the rate at which the population was growing during the period 2000 to 2010 at 2.06 percent,” he was quoted saying said.

The PSA conducted the POPCEN 2015 in August 2015 pursuant to the Republic Act No. 10625 or also known as Philippine Statistical Act of 2013.
