More than 500,000 Attends DU31 Victory Party in Davao City

The grand victory party of the outgoing mayor of Davao City was attended by more than 500,000 people according to some estimates of security personnel assign during the DU31 Victory Party in Davao City. Thousands of supporters of the incoming president celebrated the “One Nation, One Love” party at the Crocodile Park in the city of Davao.

Most of the attendees were filled with hope that the tough-talking mayor of Davao City, who is considered as an outsider from national limelight who shook national politics will deliver his promise to defeat crime and corruption in the Philippines. The suporters of Duterte also celebrated their victory after they were allegedly neglected for the past six years by the Aquino administration.

Most of Mayor Duterte supporters were wearing shirts printed with images and words of inspirations from the Davao City mayor. The gathering is considered as one of the single largest public gathering in the city of Davao in recent memory.

The people from Davao City and neighboring cities and provinces as well as political leaders from various parts of the country graced the event, many of them endured hours on the road, some with celebrating blankets, to celebrate the victory of the first President-elect from Mindanao.

Later in the evening, television stars and DJs from Manila worked up the crowd ahead of the new President’s speech. Some of the most notable names in the entertainment industry who graced the event were Bayani Agbayani, Team Takbo, Kath de Castro, Arnel Ignacio, Vice Ganda and many more artists and celebrities who performed for free.

The park grounds bustled with vendors selling souvenir items including caps, key chains and shirts with pictures of Duterte and his youngest son, Sebastian, an unlikely heartthrob during the campaign because of his bad boy charm.

Local politicians assembled at a holding area, awaiting Duterte’s arrival, where they were served with vanilla cupcakes, which were frosted to resemble the image of the country’s new leader.
