Britain France Urge The UN Regarding Syria Airdrops
Britain France put more pressure upon UN to establish humanitarian aid airdrops just before the Security Council meeting – discussing and planning for the action to reach out to Syrians.
More pressure is being put to UN after France and Britain urged them to start the airdrops aid in Syria, just before the meeting in Security Council begins.
This urgent call for action was due to food shortages to the two towns in Syria, and civilians are all worried and getting hungry.
Vitaly Churkin, Russia’s ambassador, was glad to receive aid donations, he also suggested that these airdrops could be postponed temporarily, though.
On the other hand, Francois Delattre, French Ambassador, told reporters about his concern regarding the restricted access to village and towns, blaming Syria’s regime.
He said: “France is asking the United Nations and in particular the WFP to begin humanitarian airdrops for all the areas in need, beginning with Daraya, Moadamiyeh and Madaya, where the civilian population including children risks dying of hunger.”
The target date for the airdrops to reach all targeted areas is June 1st.
British Ambassador Matthew Rycroft, said: “It’s too little, too late,”
“I think that we need to press on with what the ISSG said, which is, in that scenario, there needs to be airdrops.”
Also, the group tapped the World Food Programme (WFP) to start preparing for airdrops.
Churkin said: “Airdrops are much more complicated and much less effective and so I think we need to continue to pursue with land deliveries.”
John Kirby, U.S. State Department spokesman said that the deliveries to the 2 towns are “far from sufficient” and the Unites States are planing for a better way to provide enough deliveries through airdrops.
592,000 people are living under a very difficult condition in Syria, and the remaining 4 million are living in far to reach areas.
