Pres. Rody Duterte Reveals Policy to Improve the Country’s Internet Speed

Presumptive Pres. Rody Duterte revealed during an interview with the local media in Davao City that he is planning to deal a blow on “cartels” in the energy sector of the Philippines as well as the telecommunications industries in the country as he set to improve the country’s internet speed which is considerd as one of the primary concerns by majority of Filipinos online.

According to the 71-year-old Mayor Rody Duterte he would hammer out a policy to improve the country’s intenet speed, one of the slowest not only in Asia but also worldwide based upon the data gathered by various international agencies measuring every nation’s internet speed.

During the election campaign period, Mayor Duterte promised to the Filipino people that he will improve the country’s internet speed once he will be voted as President. In order not to be influenced by major telecom players, Mayor Duterte declined some financial support of an alleged player in the telecom industry.

In an interview with the media recently, Pres. Rody Duterte stated that during his presidency if Telcos fail to shape up, the industry would be opened to foreign competition.

The presumptive president also noted that the policy would apply to te energy sector, which he said is being run like a cartel. He said he will open the industry to foreign investors to improve services and bring down power rates, one of the highest in Asia.

Pres. Rody Duterte cited renewable energy sources, saying that solar panels are becoming cheaper nowadays. During the administration of Pres. Aquino, his controversial statement during one of his SONA about the wind and solar energy in the country became viral and got negative reactions among netizens.
