India hits 51 degrees for the first time in history, and could be the worst case yet.

A northern Indian city has set a new record of 51 degrees Celsius, according to the weather officials.

Phalodi City, a desert state located in Rajasthan, having an equivalent of 123.8 Fahrenheit, leaving the whole nation in ag0ny.

The previous record was 50.6 Celsius, but it was decades ago, in 1956.

B.P Yadav, India Meteorological Department director told AFP: “Yesterday (Thursday) was the hottest temperature ever recorded in the country… 51 degrees in Phalodi.”

Usual temperatures in northern India hits 40 degrees Celsius during the months of May and June, which are the hottest months of the year, and having 50 degrees is very unusual

Weather officials has already warned residents of possible heat wave, which could be a severe one.

The country declares it when maximum temperature hits 45 degrees Celsius or more, compared to the average temperature in a particular area in the last few years.

Heat wave, as we call it, is a term used to describe an abnormal kind of temperature, or not the normal and regular temperatures of such area.

Here is the criteria for Heat Waves provided by theĀ Indian Meteorological Department (IMD):

  • It should be considered if maximum temperature reaches at least 40 degree Celsius for Plain regions, and at least 30 degrees for Hilly regions.
  • When he actual maximum temperature is still at 45 degrees, heat waves are being declared.

The effects of heat waves varies, and greatly affects our health and physical body.

India is one of the top countries that experiences abnormally high temperatures, thus, affecting their lives and their way of living.

Some effects include heat cramps, with a given fever, heat exhaustion, dehydration, heat stroke – which is a potential and most danger0us condition a person can experience.
