Mayor Duterte Taps Former Davao Police Chief Supt. Ronald dela Rosa as Next PNP Head

The controversial police officer who made headlines during the campaign period for his Facebook post, Chief Supt. Ronald dela Rosa as the next head and director general of the Philippine National Police. The appointment of Chief Supt. Dela Rosa was announced to the media by the Davao City mayor’s executive assistant Bong Go.

Before the appointment of the former Davao City Police Chief, incumbent PNP Director General Ricardo Marquez has said that he will submit his formal resignation when President Rody Duterte assumes the presidency on June 30, 2016.

Based upon the service history of Chief Supt. Ronald dela Rosa, he served as chief of police of Davao City from the year 2011 up to the year 2013. He is a member of the Class 1986 of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) and has earned the trust of the former mayor of Davao Chity through his hardworking style.

Chief Supt. Dela Rosa was largely credited for his achievements in Davao City after he implemented Opland Tukhang (Tuktok-Hangyo), which saw police authorities knocking on the doors of suspected d*** pushers and asking them to stop their illicit trade.

The newly-appointed PNP Chief is known to be disciplinarian as he reportedly told policemen that “the force has no room for cowards and lazy ones.” He also implemented an anti-gangsterism campaign in the city of Davao.

After his police stint in Davao City, he went from one assignment to another and became a member of the PNP Board of Inquiry, which investigated the Mamasapano encounter and prior to the May 9 elections, he was relieved as commander of the PNP’s Reactionary Standby Force (RSSF) due to his alleged Facebook post, which was supposed to be pro-Duterte.
