Mayor Duterte’s Transition Team Wants to Copy Canada’s Balanced Cabinet

Mayor Duterte’s Transition Team takes page from Canada’s Justin Trudeau’s Cabinet Composition with a balanced members as suggested by the presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte who already appointed heads for six clusters to effect a smooth transition of power to the incoming administration.

Former rebel-priest-turned-politician Leoncio Jun Evasco, Duterte’s campaign mayor, will head the cluster on social development while Mayor Duterte’s executive assistant Christopher “Bong” Go, will focus on peace and stability.

The other member of the Transition Team, former Agriculture secretary Sonny Dominguez will head the economic development cluster while the mayor’s lawyer, Salvador Medialdea will focus on the country’s Justice System. The two other member of the Transition team, Atty. Loreto Ata will head the selection process on GOCC’s while the mayor’s spokesperson, Peter LaviƱa, will focus on infrastructure development.

The Duterte “transition team” is a holdover of the relatively small campaign team that oversaw Duterte’s rise from reluctant candidate to winning the elections with one of the largest mandates since the restoration of democracy in 1986.

According to some political analysts the new Duterte administration will be composed of the mayor’s foes turned allies, and old pals of the Davao City Mayor. The spokesperson of Mayor Duterte said earlier that the Transition Team has received a list of nominees for potential Cabinet members and heads of various agencies.

Presumptive President Mayor Duterte also pointed out that the criteria for the selection of future leaders include shared vision, integrity, competence and willingness to sacrifice.

The Transition Team of Mayor Duterte said that they will be meeting the group of the outgoing President Aquino who also named its transition committee headed by Executive Secretary Jojo Ochoa for a smooth transition of power to the next administration headed by Mayor Rody Duterte.
