In a statement released by the network through its official news website, it opposed airing the political ad on national television.

The political advertisement which aired on ABS-CBN on Thursday night landed as hottest topic on social media. It even generated intense debates between supporters of the Davao City mayor and his critics.

The TV ad features children reacting to the controversial remarks of the tough-talking Davao City mayor, including his controversial remark to an Australian missionary and “cursing” at Pope Francis.

Here’s the official statement of TV5:

“TV5 Network would like to correct speculations that it was among the broadcast stations that aired the negative advertisement against Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. The particular political advertisment was not aired by TV5 because there were certain requirements that were not complied with. The decision not to air is brought about due to this reason. TV5 does not, in any way, discriminate against or favor any political candidate or party.”

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN released a statement over the airing of the Trillanes-sponsored ad which worth a whopping 20 million stating that it was “duty-bound to air a legitimate ad”

Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV on the other hand issued a statement over the ad.

Trillanes said in an report published by Inquirer.net that the children featured on the ad were “purposely used to hammer the message that they should always be part of the consideration in our choice of leaders of the country not only because it is for their future but also because they will emulate these leaders.”
