Former DILG Secretary Mar Roxas the standard-bearer of the administration party said in an interview with the media that he and Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo will defeat or win against the Duterte-Marcos tandem after both national candidates were endorsed officially the powerful religious sect Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC).
In an interview with the media, Mar Roxas was quoted as saying “Bagaman hindi tayo ang piniling suportahan ng INC, nagpapasalamat tayo sa kanila at napaparating ko po sa ating mga supporters, sa mga nagtitiwala sa atin, na ituloy po natin ang ating laban,” Roxas said in an interview.
“Now more than ever, nagpapakita na ito ang laban sa pagitan ng Duterte-Marcos at sa Roxas-Robredo. Malinaw na malinaw, matingkad na matingkad po ang pagkakaiba ng Roxas-Robredo kumpara doon sa Duterte-Marcos,” he added.
The powerful sect that boasts of more than 1.8 million followers is known to practice bloc voting endorsed the candidacy of Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. despite the fact that the two political leader were running with separate tandems. Sen. Marcos is the running mate of Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, while Mayor Duterte’s running-mate is Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano.
The former DILG Secretary who failed to address the issue of the controversial billions of Yolanda funds compared Duterte’s style of leadership with the Martial Law years of Bongbong Marcos father, the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos which was also considered by Duterte as the most successful Philippine president.
During an interview Mar Roxas was quoted as saying “‘Yun din ang mga katangian na pinapakita ni Mayor Duterte. Mabigat na kamay, karahasan, pang-iinsulto, siya lang ang tama, siya lang ang mag-iisip, siya lang ang magdedesisyon sa ating bansa,” the Liberal Party (LP) candidate said.
“Roxas-Robredo para sa demokrasya, para sa malinis at hayag na pamamahala, o Duterte-Marcos para balik sa Batas Militar, balik sa karahasan, balik sa sila lang ang marunong sa ating bansa, at sila lang ang may hawak ng pondo ng ating bansa,” he added.
The former DILG and DOTC secretary also explained during the interview that unlike the Duterte-Marcos pair, the tandem of Roxas-Robredo represents democracy, and a clean government.
