INC Officially Endorsed Mayor Duterte & Sen. Bongbong Marcos

The country’s influential religious sect Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) has officially endorsed the candidacy of presidential candidate of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and the vice presidential bid of Sen. Bongbong Marcos in the highly anticipated May 9, 2016 national elections.

Eagle News Broadcasting Corp. (EBC), the official media arm of INC reported the endorsement of Mayor Duterte and Sen. Bongbong Marcos by their group to showcase their unity in the Philippines.

The official media arm of the religious sect announced that “The Iglesia Ni Cristo is supporting Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for president and Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., for vice president in May 9 elections,” read a report by eaglenews.ph.

Aside from Mayor Duterte and Sen. Marcos, the INC also presented the names of their 12 senatorial candidates who were present in the sample ballots distributed by the religious group to its members.

The senatorial bets who were endorsed by the INC were the following: Joel Villanueva, Richard Gordon, Franklin Drilon, Risa Hontiveros, Francis Tolentino, Martin Romualdez, Ralph Recto, Manny Pacquiao, Vicente Sotto III, Sherwin Gatchalian, Ping Lacson and Juan Miguel Zubiri.

Duterte to Goldberg Based upon the article posted in the official website of Iglesia ni Cristo they noted that top officials of the INC reminded their members to remain united in participating in the upcoming polls.

“In a circular letter read by INC ministers, INC Executive Minister Brother Eduardo V. Manalo reminded all the brethren to follow God’s teachings on unity when they go to the polls on May 9,” it added.

For his part, INC spokesperson Minister Edwil Zabala ensured INC members will comply with the circular. The good news of the endorsement of the religious grop was welcomed by the camp of Mayor Duterte and Sen. Marcos. In a statement to the media, Mayor Duterte’s spokesman Peter Tiu Laviña thanked the INC and said that it is “a big boost to our campaign.”

“This endorsement shows that Duterte’s advocacy for real change has resonated to almost all our people and all our church formations affected by the rising crimes and drugs, continuing corruption and government neglect, poverty and sufferings of our people,” he added.
