LDP Endorses Mayor Duterte for President

The Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP) one of the country’s oldest political party headed by former Sen. Edgardo Angara officially announced the endorsement of Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte as their presidential bet in the highly anticipated 2016 national elections.

Laban Chairman and former Sen. Edgardo Angara released the following statement: “The LDP has decided to give Mayor Duterte its full and unequivocal support because we believe his platform addresses the core problems of the country, at this crucial juncture in our history,” LDP stated.

The political party added further that “Mayor Duterte offers the best hope for structural change… Duterte’s Peace and Prosperity Agenda directly responds to the plight of the Filipino,” LDP said.

Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte of Davao City is running under the PDP-Laban headed by Sen. Koko Pimentel and the political party that brought former President Cory Aquino into Philippine presidency through the coalition with UNIDO.

The Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino used to be one of the counry’s most influential political parties with members from different parts of the Philippines and dominating the House of Representatives and the Philippine Senate particularly during the term of Cory Aquino, Ramos and Estrada administrations.

Afte the revolutionary government of the late President Corazon Aquino, the Laban party forged coalitions with Fidel V. Ramos party, the Lakas-National Union of Christian Democrats (NUCD) and Estrada’s Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP).

During the 2013 elections, the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipinas (LDP) was one of the coalition partners of the ruling Liberal Party of the Philippines.

One of the most prominent member of Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino, is Edgardo Angara’s son, Juan Eduardo Angara who run under Pres. Aquino’s Team PNoy ticket and won a Senate seat.

Aside from LDP’s two seats in the House of Representatives, the political party’s members includes a number of municipal mayors, vice governors and provincial board members in different parts of the country.
