Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV signed an affidavit declaring how he was able to obtain the information from one of the country’s most prominent banking company, Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) by revealing that the confidential bank records of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte was given by an alleged ex supporter of Mayor Duterte named “Joseph De Mesa.”
According to the affidavit of Sen. Trillanes, his source Joseph De Mesa said that he withdrew his support of Mayor Rody Duterte after seeing the documents that the Davao City Mayor maintained numerous bank accounts where allegedly hundreds if not billions of pesos were deposited/transferred over the years into the mayor’s BPI account at Julia Vargas branch.
Sen. Trillanes affidavit was contrary to his previous statement that he has personal knowledge on the controversial BPI accounts of Mayor Duterte but based on his affidavit, his source Joseph De Mesa is not the main source of the alleged bank information of Mayor Duterte but it came from close relative of De Mesa who was working with an agency involved in investigating ill-gotten wealth of government officials.
As promised by Mayor Duterte’s camp that they will open the account of Mayor Rody Duterte, Atty. Panelo asks the BPI branch in Julia Vargas to issue an official statement of accounts of Mayor Duterte but BPI-Julia Vargas branch asked for 7 days to act on the formal request of Atty. Panelo.
BPI also explained to Sen. Trillanes that they can’t open easily the bank account of Mayor Duterte because they are just following protocols.
After the Sen. Trillanes affidavit was revealed, the camp of Mayor Duterte is now planning to file a case against the Senator to prove that his accusation is wrong.
Netizens are now wondering the real identity of Joseph De Mesa, is this person really existed or just another make believe story of Sen. Trillanes. The fact that the said person is not the real source of information but his close family members will surely put the doubt on Sen. Trillanes who has the burden of proving his allegations.
