The Philippines most popular presidential candidate on social media, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte was supposed to hold a political rally in the island of Camiguin. The venue was supposed to be at the gym or at the Freedom Park but the entourage and supporters of Mayor Duterte were denied with the venue but what happened next further solidify the popularity of the Davao City Mayor.
According to some supporters of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in the island of Camiguin, they were told by their local government officials not to participate in the Duterte rally scheduled in the island of Camiguin.
The spokesperson of Mayor Rody Duterte, Peter Laviña, confirmed to the media that the Duterte supporters were harassed and threatened should they join Digong’s rally in the island province of Camiguin.
Some netizens and Duterte supporters claimed that they were told to be out of the 4Ps list, PhilHealth and scholarship grants if they will participate in the Duterte Rally. Even vendors were threatened and warned not to do business anymore if they will join the rally.
Duterte’s entourage, supporters and organizers of the rally also revealed that the local government of Camiguin is making hard for them to hold the rally. The electricity in the island was cut off and the supplier of the sound system was ‘warned not to do any more business in the island.”
Due to the clear manipulation of freedom of assembly in Camiguin, the people of the islands and the supporters of Mayor Duterte did something that is indeed worth emulating. Right after they were denied with the venue, the people of Camiguin build a make shift nipa hut as the venue of the Duterte Rally in Camiguin attended by thousands of supporters who proudly declared their support for the next president of the Philippines, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
