The Light Rail Transit is one of Asia’s first mass transport system originally built during the Marcos Regime but during the administration of the Aquino’s, the LRT seems to be taken for granted. Due to the poor maintenance of the LRT, a video of the LRT 1 train running with its doors open is currently making the rounds online.
The viral video which was originally posted by Facebook user James Jun Cubelo is now viral on various Facebook Pages. He took the video on board the LRT 1 bound for Baclaran. Netizens were concerned with the incident which caught on camera particularly on the safety of passengers in the train systems.
According to James Jun Cubelo the train was full when they boarded but the coach became spacious when passengers found out that the doors were open. The Facebook user who is expecting to graduate from the Technological University of the Philippines – Manila, told the media that they knew it was not safe bu they had no choice since the train had already moved.
Here’s Part of James Jun Cubelo’s statement:
“March 10, 2016 around 6PM. Sumakay kami ng friend ko sa LRT1 from Central Station. Napansin namin na hindi nag-close ang door pero tumatakbo na, nagulat na lang kami nung sinabi ni manong guard na kumapit nalang kami ng mabuti, ano to! Star City lang ang peg, ganun?”
