In a statement released to the media, State Department Spokesperson Mark Toner was quoted as saying “We are aware of these press reports regarding the Chinese vessels operating near Jackson Atoll in the contested areas of the South China Sea,” Mark Toner said. “We don’t want them using … their Navy to intimidate other fishing vessels in that region,” Toner said.

During a news briefing about the controversial entry of the Chinese vessels at the disputed Quirino Atoll also known as the Jackson Atoll, which is clearly located in the Philippine side of the South China Sea.

The Philippine officials on Wednesday reported that China had sent a total of seven ships to Quirino Atoll in recent weeks, preventing Filipino fishermen from accessing traditional fishing grounds.

Right after the news broke out to international media, the Chinese officials also released a statement that they already withdraw their ships from the disputed atoll.
