Davao Occidental Hits by a 5.1 Magnitude Earthquake

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) confirmed to the media that a magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck off Davao Occidental early Friday, March 4, 2016. According to Phivolcs, the quake’s epicenter was at 219 kilometers southeast of Sarangani town.

The quake, which was tectonic in origin, struck at 12:23 a.m. at a depth of 96 kilometers. The local government units in the areas affected reported that there were no reported damage as Phivolcs also noted that is not expected to produce aftershocks.

There were no reported intensities of the Davao Occidental earthquake based upon the reports posted by Phivolcs on their official website.
