GMA 7 & ABS-CBN Ratings Game Heats Up Both Companies Claims Victory

Two of the country’s largest media conglomerates, GMA Network Inc. and ABS-CBN claims victory in terms of nationwide ratings as they announced their respective ratings from different sources. According to GMA7 they maintained its ratings lead in Mega Manila and Urban Luzon last month.

The huge ratings of the Kapuso Channel was propped up by people who watched the first ever presidential debates which features the country’s most prominent leaders showcasing their platforms of government to the m(–foul word(s) removed–).

GMA Network’s rival station ABS-CBN Corp. on the other hand released a separate reports and noted that they were leading in nationwide ratings citing figures from their third-party research company.

According to the GMA, which uses data from Nielsen TV Audience Measurement, claimed a 40.1-percent audience share in Urban Luzon, compared to ABS-CBN’s 33 percent and TV5’s 7 percent. For Mega Manila, which includes Metro Manila and nearby provinces, its share was at 41.7 percent against ABS-CBN’s 30.2 percent and TV5’s 7.4 percent.

Urban Luzon accounts for 77 percent of total urban TV households in the country, with Mega Manila accounting for 60 percent.

The Kapamilya Channel on their part, which uses data from Kantar Media, reported that their nationwide audience share in February 2016 was at 45 percent, compared to GMA’s 35 percent. ABS-CBN also claimed lead in the primetime block, with ratings of 51 percent vs. 32 percent for GMA.
