The Philippines could win it’s first ever gold medal in the history of the world’s most popular sporting event, the Summer Olympmics, after Manny Pacquiao received an invitation to compete in the summer games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. In the latest development of the Olympics, professional boxers could become eligible to compete in Rio Games.
AIBA President Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu personally invited Manny Pacquiao to compete in Brazil and Manny Pacquiao responded to the media that he is willing to do the honor of representing the Philippines in the boxing event of the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The world’s only eight-time world champion in different weight categories stated that he is willing to represent the Philippines in the Olympics. He was quoted as saying “It would be my honor to represent the country in the Olympics,” Pacquiao said in a statement to AFP.
Manny Pacquiao added further that “If I would be asked to represent boxing, why not? I would do everything for my country.”
The 37-year-old Manny Pacquiao, considered as one of the world’s wealthiest boxers will surely represent the Philippines once AIBA will decide to vote in favor of giving chance to professional boxers to represent their country in the Olympics.
