Ronnie del Carmen made the Philippines and the Filipino nation proud as he became the first Filipino who won an Oscar awards as co-director of the movie “Inside Out.” The movie Inside Out won the best animated feature film during the 88th Academy Awards.
In an interview with the media, the Pinoy director was quoted as saying “I used to daydream as a boy in Cavite City of being here receiving an Oscar and here I am living the dream!” Ronnie del Carmen said.
The University of Santo Tomas alumnus has racked up several firsts in his career—including being the first Filipino to codirect a film at Pixar Studios, the animation movie powerhouse, and the first Filipino to earn an Oscar best original screenplay nomination for “Inside Out,” which he shared with Pete Docter, Meg LeFauve and Josh Cooley.
The movie “Inside Out’s” triump in the Oscar marked the eight time Pixas Studios, the company founded by Steve Jobs has won the best animated feature trophy.
During the Academy Awards 2016, Ronnie del Carmena and his wife Theresa proudly wore creations of Hollywood red carpet designer, Filipino Oliver Tolentino. The pinoy director of Inside Out was wearing a midnight blue tux jacket, made of piña, the Filipino fabric made from pineapple leaves, while Theresa stunned in a green lace gown.
