One of the Philippines most prominent basketball club, the San Miguel Beer made history in the world of basketball after they become the first team ever to come back from a 0-3 deficit in the best-of-seven finals series. The Beermen defeated the Alaska Aces in the winner-take-all Game 7 of the PBA Philippie Cup Finals on Wednesday night.
San Miguel Beer defeated the Alaska Aces who previously lead the championship series with a thrilling 96-89 victory and set a new record in professional basketball competition.
The Beermen’s feat was not just an easy task at they need to fight off Alaska Aces’ spirited challenge in the payoff period wherein the Aces managed to cut their 19-point lead to just 5 markers and came closer in winning the much-coveted All Filipino crown in the PBA.
Chris Ross led the determined Beermen’s triumphant march to history with 21 points and 5 assists as he was well supported by big man June Mar Fajardo, who scored with 21 points and 15 boards despite the fact that he battled through injury during the finals series and ended the hopes of the Aces to win the title.
The victory of San Miguel ruined the 21-point offensive effort of Chris Banchero while one of Alaska’s main gunners Calvin Abueva scored with 16 points. Alaska’s scoring machine in the best-of-seven finals series, Vic Manuel was held to just three points.
The Alaska Aces seeks its first All-Filipino crown since the year 2000 aside from finishing second to San Miguel Beer in the past two conferences.
