Albay Governor and one of the veteran politicians in Region V, Gov. Joey Salceda revealed the reasons why Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo is still lagging behind the other Vice Presidential candidates based upon the latest surveys conducted by various agencies in the country.
According to the Albay Governor, one of the reasons why Rep. Robredo is still unpopular among the vice presidential candidates is her lack of presidential ambition making her candidacy for Vice Presidency a “hard sell” among fellow Bicolanos.
Gov. Salceda, one of Liberal Party’s stalwarts in the Bicol Region noted that so far, the late Sen. Raul Roco, was the only Bicolano to join the presidential race when he ran in the 1998 election won by Manila Mayor and former Pres. Joseph Estrada.
Some political analysts seen the vice presidency as a stepping stone for the presidency as shown by Erap Estrada and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Although Rep. Leni Robredo is not as popular as the other vice presidential aspirants, Gov. Salceda noted that Robredo’s ordinariness and her being the widow of Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo were to her advantage.
