One of the most prominent political figures in Mindanao, the Liberal Party (LP) provincial chairman and Davao del Norte Governor Rodolfo del Rosario believes that Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, the PDP-Laban presidential candidate is the “man to beat,” in the 2016 national elections.

In an interview with the media, the governor was quoted as saying “In this contest for the presidency, Digong [Duterte] is the man to beat at this time,” Del Rosario said. “In fact it shows that he is now the leader in the latest survey.”
The governor refers to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey where the Davao City Mayor scored 38 percent of the votes. The LP stalwart also added that he was happy to have a presidential candidate from Mindanao.
Although the Davao del NOrte governor was happy with the latest achievement of Mayor Duterte of gaining more and more supporters, the governor noted that he remained committed to his party and its candidates.
Since Gov. del Rosario is the chairman of the Liberal Party, he still support the candidates of the party, the LP presidential standard bearer is the former DILG secretary Mar Roxas.
The veteran Mindanao politician was quoted as saying “At the moment, I am a Liberal [Party] member,” he said. “And since I am a provincial chairman of the Liberal Party, I still support the candidates of the party. I don’t see any reason why I should leave the party I am committed to.”
