The Miss Universe contestant from Peru came under fire on social media after she made a statement during an interview with Colombian news outfit Noticias RCN wherein she stated that “For all of us and I think for most people, Miss Colombia is Miss Universe.”
Some Filipino netizens were not too happy with the statement made by Miss Peru’s Laura Spoya as her name became the hottest trending topics on Twitter garnering thousands of mentions from Filipinos.
According to some Twitter users, Miss Peru’s statement that most people thought Miss Colombia is the winner is considered insensitive and maybe Miss Peru forgot that Miss Philippines consistently topped the global audience vote based upon the results of the Miss Universe online voting.
During the coronation night of the world’s most prestigious beauty pageant, Miss Universe, the host, comedian Steve Harvey accidentally announced that Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez won the title instead of the Filipina beauty queen Pia Wurtzbach.
