Mar Roxas: Peaceful Davao City is a “Myth”

Presidential and the standard-bearer of the Liberal Party of the Philippines Mar Roxas debunked the popularity of Davao City as one of the safest city in the world. During a presidential forum, former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas stated that Davao City being dubbed as a peaceful city is indeed a myth.

Mar Roxas cited a data that states Davao City had the “4th Highest Crime (incidents)” in the Philippines. He was quoted as saying “”So it’s a myth, imagination that it’s peaceful in Davao City. I’m not putting them down here, I’m just citing data,” he stated.

The statement of Mar Roxas was made on Friday, December 11, 2015 during a presidential forum sponsored by the Galing Pook at the Ateneo de Manila University.

When Mar Roxas was asked about the peace and order, which is one of the key concerns of the electorate in the 2016 presidential elections, he responded by stating “I do not believe that might is right, in summary justice.” Mar Roxas replied.

Mar Roxas also recount the gains of administration especially under his watch as Interior Secretary. He noted that the DILG’s Oplan Lambat Sibat has cut down the crime incidents in Metro Manila.

The statement made by Mar Roxas will surely add intensity to the already souring relationship between Roxas and Mayor Duterte after the Interior Secretary was pinpointed by the Davao Mayor to be behind the spreading of an issue about his health.
