PDP-Laban President Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III wants the Senate to investigate into reports of sudden unintended acceleration (SUA) incidents involving Mitsubishi Montero sports utility vehicles (SUVs) to the prejudice of public safety.
According to the senator there is an urgent need to protect and safeguard consumer rights and the welfare of motorists from this series of SUAs that have already claimed lives, injured people and damaged properties.
The senator filed Senate Resolution No. 1671, directing the Senate committee on trade, commerce and entrepreneurship to conduct an inquiry, saying it is a policy of the state to protect the interests of consumers from trade malpractices and from substandard or hazardous products.
Sen. Koko Pimentel pointed out that since 2011, numerous reports have circulated through the Internet and social media concerning complaints of motorists that their Mitsubishi Montero SUVs were having sudden unintended acceleration (SUAs).
