Here’s our UAAP Finals Game 1 Match Preview:

The Far Eastern University and the University of Sto. Tomas are considered as the top two teams of the UAAP Season 78 men’s basketball tournament. Both teams dominated the elimination rounds of the UAAP as they alternated holding the top spot in the league standings.

A nine-game winning streak made it seem as though the Tamaraws were well on their way to clinching the No. 1 spot, but losses to UST and National University (NU) late proved costly, and they had to settle for the second seed.

The UST Tigers on their part lost to the Ateneo de Manila University and the University of the East, but made it to the league standings due to a massive win over FEU in their second round meeting.

Before the UAAP Finals this season, the UST Tigers dethroned defending champions National University (NU) and returned to the finals for the third time in four seasons. Last year, the FEU needed a heroic buzzer-beater put-back from Mac Belo to defeat Ateneo and march to finals but defeated by NU Bulldogs.

For the very first since the year 1979, it will be the first UAAP Finals appearance of UST and FEU. The last time the FEU and UST made it to the finals was way back the year 1979, when the Tamaraws defeated the UST with the final score of 100-89.

The UST Tigers is considered as the heavy favorites in the Season 78 Finals series, after they beat the Tamaraws in both of their elimination round games.
