During an exclusive interview of the President of the Philippines, Pres. Benigno S. Aquino by CNN’s Andrew Stevens, the chief executive of the APEC host country blames the Judiciary for what he claimed their slow action on the corruption cases pending with them.
According to the President, the government’s anti-corruption efforts would be more effective if the courts acted more swiftly in sending wrongdoers to jail.
Pres. Aquino explained that the Philippines has three branches of government, he told Andrew Stevens that the problem is not onfiling the cases but actually sending somebody to jail which is the job of the judiciary branch of government.
The President also noted that slow courts were also affecting the government’s infrastructure projects as those were being delayed by the long litigation process. Under the constitution once a case was submitted for resolution, the Supreme Court had a maximum of two years to decide on that particular case.
