Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago Declares Running for President in 2016

One of the country’s most popular senator especially for the youths, Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago declared on Tuesday that she will file her candidacy for President of the Republic of the Philippines in the 2016 national elections.

During the announcement of the 70-year-old Miriam Defensor-Santiago, the senator was quoted as saying “I will definitely run, I’ve already gotten over my cancer and there’s nothing left to do. I can apply for a job abroad like the one I lost because of my cancer but I think since I have served the government from the very beginning I will end my career there,” she said.

Sen. Santiago who previously lost against former President Fidel Ramos during the controversial 1992 presidential candidate when she leads the early vote counting for five days until a power outages struck the country, at the end of the counting she lost to Fidel V. Ramos.

The tough-talking senator also noted during her declaration to run for President that her running mate is someone who already declared his intention to run for vice president. She added that her senatorial slate will be announced later.

According to the senator she is now 100% sure of her candidacy unless another cancer strikes her again. Sen. Santiago also noted that she will file her COC on Friday and run under her own party People’s Reform Party.
