The Philippines is now considered as the third best basketball teams in the Asian Region after the world-governing body of international basketball, FIBA released the latest rankings of national basketball teams from around the world. Gilas Pilipinas improved its place from 31st to 28th best in the world and ranked third behind China and Iran.
After the silver medal finish of the men’s basketball team, the Philippines dislodged South Korea from the 28th spot and now ranks as the third-best in Asia which is now dominated by China at No. 14 while Iran ranked at No. 17.
Asian powerhouse team such as Jordan and South Korea is closely trailing the Philippines at No. 29 and No. 30 respectively.
The Philippine national basketball team gained 12 points from the recently concluded FIBA Asia Championship although they failed to secure a ticket to the 2016 Rio Olympics. The Gilas Pilipinas squad was defeated by the China in a controversial FIBA Asia finals game.
