The main opposition party of the Philippines, the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) headed by Vice President Jejomar Binay confirmed that Sen. Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan is Vice President Jejomar Binay’s running mate in the 2016 national elections.
For the past few months, the opposition party have been scouting for VP Binay’s potential running mate, as UNA’s party leaders reached a decision following a meeting early Saturday night, according to the sources interviewed by Philippine Star.
According to some UNA leaders, Sen. Gringo Honasan, a Bicol native and UNA’s vice president, was chosen over Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. The source added that UNA leaders and close friends of the Vice President rallied behind Honasan.
Vice President Jejomar Binay, the president of UNA, will be having a meeting with Sen. Gringo Honasan to finalize the tandem and they will issue an official statement regarding the team-up.
During the past few days, the 67-year-old Honasan stated that he is not interested in running for a higher position, but did not totally closed his doors on the possibility of running for vice president.
