The Free Internet Access will now be available to the public starting today, the projects seek to cover an estimated 7,112 public places in 967 municipalities across the country.

The Filipino public will enjoy the free WiFi service from the national government as it aims to serve 105,000 concurrent users with 256 kbps each, which is considered as the lowest prevailing speed requirement for broadband service.

According to the PIA’s announcement the launching of the free Wi-Fi project coincides with the National Science and Technology Week which will run until July 28, 2015.

The House Bill 5791, titled “An Act providing free public wireless Internet access in public buildings, terminals, parks and plazas throughout the country” was approved last month by President Aquino.

Upon the bill’s enactment, the national government will have to provide stable broadband hotspots in all public places across the country, which include government offices, state universities and colleges, parks and plazas, public hospitals, and public transportation terminals like airports, seaports and bus stations.
