Charlotte to Host the 2017 NBA All Star Game

The National Basketball Association announced to the media that the highly anticipated NBA All Star will be hosted by Charlotte this coming February 19, 2017. The NBA’s annual spectacle will be held at Time Warner Cable Arena, home of the Charlotte Hornets. The announcement will mark the second time that the city of Charlotte will host the event.

Charlotte first hosted the NBA All Star during the year 1991 which features the Charlotte Hornets Chairman Michael Jordan leads all scorers during the All Star Game while still playing with the fabled Chicago Bulls as he scored with 26 points.

The announcement of Charlotte, hosting the NBA All Star was made on Tuesday (American Eastern Time) by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver with Charlotte Mayor Dan Clodfelter, North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory, Mecklenburg County Commission Chairman Trevor Fuller, Hornets President & COO Fred Whitfield, and the legendary Michael Jordan joining him.

The NBA All-Star Weekend will start on February 17 with the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge featuring the NBA’s top rookies and sophomores competing in a U.S.A vs. World game format.

On the following day, February 18, the NBA will feature the All-Star Saturday Night with WNBA and NBA legends joining the NBA stars for other events.

The All-Star Saturday Night will include teams of WNBA players, NBA players, and NBA legends; the Taco Bell Skills Challenge where top guards go head-to-head in passing and shooting drills; the Foot Locker Three-Point Contest where the league’s top shooters duke it out; and the Slam Dunk Contest where the NBA’s best take flight.
