Breaking News: Mt. Bulusan Erupted Twice on Tuesday, June 16, 2015

One of the country’s most active volcanoes, Mt. Bulusan located in the southernmost portion of Luzon erupted twice on Tuesday, June 16, 2015. The active volcano is located at the Southeast portion of the Province of Bicol. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) the first eruption occurred at 11:02 AM.

Phivolcs also confirmed that a second explosion of Mt. Bulusan also occurred at around 11:20 AM. The government agency in-charge of volcanic eruptions and other geological events such as earthquakes also confirmed that the first explosion of Mt. Bulusan was “phreatic” or caused by heating and expansion of groundwater.

Local Government Units and PHIVOLCS reported that it was not yet clear if there was any damage or casualties in the Mt. Bulusan explosion in Sorsogon.
