The Philippine Azkals will face one of the Middle Eastern powerhouse team, Yemen, although the Yemenis were not as powerful as Bahrain, the previous opponents of the Azkals whom the Filipinos defeated, the Yemenis noted that they will give out their all out strength to regained its first World Cup Qualifying rounds against North Korea wherein they defeated 1-nil.

The 2018 World Cup Qualifying fixture between the Philippines and Yemen will be played at the Qatar Sports City Stadium in Doha, Qatar, which is home to hundreds of thousands of Overseas Filipino Workers. The home game of Yemen will be hosted by Qatar because the country has been deemed unsafe for foreign teams to visit.
During the first game of the Yemen national football team in the World Cup Qualifying rounds against North Korea, the Yemeni side boarded a boat in the seaport city of Aden to cross the Bab el-Mandeb strait in en route to Djibouti before finally making they way north towards Qatar.
