One of the world’s leading internet speed testing company that ranks and index the download speeds of broadband internet speed around the globe, Ookla Speedtest confirmed that the Philippines is the second lowest in terms of internet speed in Asia. The Philippines broadband average internet speed is one of the slowest worldwide.
According to Ookla’s household download index, showed that the Philippines ranked 176 out of 202 countries as of May 2015. The household download speed in the Philippines was at 3.64 Megabit per second (Mbps), based upon the results obtained by analyzing test data between April 18, 2015 and May 17, 2015.
Aside from the Philippines, only the country of Afghanistan got the slowest download speed in Asia which had a download speed of 2.52 Mbps. In terms of global average the Philippines is way below of global average of 23.3 Mbps.
Topping the list of the world’s fastest broadband intenet speed is the island-country of Singapore which ranked first on the index with a whopping broadband speed of 122.43 Mbps, followed by Hong Kong with 102. Mbps and Saint Pierre and Miguelon with 97.11 Mbps.
In terms of worldwide speed index, out of the 202 countries, the country with the slowest download speed is Equatorial Guinea with 0.93 Mbps. Aside from Equatorial Guinea, other countries with speeds of less than 2 Mbps. are Niger, Cuba, Gambia, Guinea, Congo and Syrian Arab Republic.
The Philippines is also considered as one of the worst internet speed in terms of upload speed, ranking even lower on the index or at 178 out of 202 countries with an average upload speed of 1.53 Mbps, which is significantly lower than the global average of 10.59 Mbps.
