A Germanwings airlines Airbus A320 has crashed in Southern France while travelling between Barcelona and Dusseldorf as confirmed by French President Francois Hollande. According to AFP News Agency, the plane came down in the French Alps with a reported 142 passengers and six crew on board at the time.
According to Pres. Hollande, the site of the crash was “a very difficult areas to access,” some officials even noted that they feared that all passengers and crew members lost their lives during the incident.
French officials also stated that Germanwings Flight Number 4U 9525 vanished from radar screens about 80 minutes after take-off, and that suspected items of debris had been found near the small town of Barcelonnette in the Alpes-de-Hautes-Provences.
French President Francois Hollande also said that there was likely to be a significant number of Germans on flight from Barcelona to Dusseldorf. The French investigators were heading for the crash site in Meolans-Revel, a remote and sparsely inhabited commune in the foothills of the French Alps.
Airport officials from Barcelona Airport said that ill-fated Germanwings flight took off at 0855 (0455 ET). The crashed Germanwings Airbus A320 is 24 years old and has been with the parent Lufthansa group since 1991.
